About

Fascial Counterstrain (FCS) is a gentle form of manual therapy that addresses the root cause of dysfunction rather than simply managing symptoms. FCS helps to relieve pain and improve mobility by releasing inflammation. Due to stress, trauma, infection or even just posture, fluid becomes trapped in the tissues which can trigger an ongoing pain response. In a treatment session, this interstitial fluid is released from its entrapment and picked up by the lymphatic system. FCS targets fascial tissues in and around every structure in the body: vessels, nerves, muscles, ligaments, tendons, bones and organs. It is highly specific and can help with countless muscular, joint, neurological and visceral conditions or symptoms.

Techniques are performed on patients fully clothed between a sitting position or lying down. A number of assessment tools such as mobility testing and the cranial scan are used to pinpoint issues and find tender points in the body. Through subtle positioning or tissue gliding, targeted structures are shortened and brought in the direction of ease. When the inflammation is released, patients will often feel the tender point dissipate. Sessions are relaxing and painless.

This is a partial list of conditions that FCS can help relieve:

  • Musculoskeletal injuries or conditions (muscle and tendon strains/tears, disc degeneration, arthritis, tendonitis, meniscus tears etc.)

  • Headaches/migraines

  • Neck and back pain

  • Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

  • Anxiety

  • Long term symptoms from COVID/Lyme Disease/Tick-borne Illness

  • Respiratory/airway issues

  • Digestive disorders  (acid reflux, IBS, chronic constipation etc.)

  • Post Concussion Syndrome

  • Pelvic floor issues and pain

  • Pre/post-operative healing

  • Vertigo/dizziness
